Work Day February 28

Robert will be working this weekend trying to finish getting the buildings ready to paint if anyone wants to come and help. The large windows in the East building are close to complete with just a small amount of priming that needs to be done. The large windows in the West building need to be sanded and then primed. There is also some priming that needs to be done on the holes that we patched. If the help is available, I will start to trim out the West building and get ready for painting. Email Robert with any questions! <repless@gmail.com>

Doggie Raincoat

FOR SALE
I have a brand new (with tags) grayish-blue with reflective trim canine raincoat in size 18" that I bought from Fetchdog on sale.  I paid $40.95 with shipping but will consider OBO.  I did not consider my sheltie's fluffy coat when measuring.  It regularly sells for $43.00. It is very handsome, functional, and not too girlyfied!

melamine dog bowl

I bought a dog bowl this week which I thought was plastic.  When I got it home, it was labeled melamine.  Since cabinets and made from it as well as poisonous dog food, just how safe is melamine?

Your Input Needed

As you all know, there is a bill authored by HSUS that is about to be introduced into the TN. Senate. I've received an email from Jon Cole, of the TN Federation of Dog Clubs (which we need to join, IMO), which asks for input on this bill. The deadline for comments is the 23rd, so if you're moved to comment, please do so asap.
Thanks,

Work Day Saturday, Feb 21

Work Day ~ Oak Ridge Kennel Club
Saturday, Feb 21
9am - 3pm

Valentines day work day was productive even though only 3 of us
showed up! We got the big doors scraped in the East building (thanks,
Carrie!) and just need a little more prep work on the buildings to be
ready to paint. We still need to fill in the holes with concrete
patch, prime and paint the moldings. The floors/mats had their mid-
session cleaning so everything is fresh for Tuesday's classes!

Please contact Robert if you have any questions or suggestions!

Work Day Saturday, Feb 14

ORKC Work Day
Saturday, Feb 14
9am - 3pm

We're having a work day this Saturday to prep the buildings
(interiors) for painting! We need to scrape the old paint off the
doors, fill in the holes with concrete patch, prime and paint the
moldings and clean the buildings. Since it's all indoor work, this
workday will not be weather dependent!

Please contact Robert if you have any questions or suggestions!

Contact your Legislators

Here's list of State and US legislators, along with contact information. I think it's important that as many people as possible make their views known about pending legislation or events such as the HSUS lobbying day coming up soon.

If you don't see your legislator, I've included links that should help you find them. When writing, be sure to maintain a polite and professional tone. It's probably better to deal with only one issue, along with some supporting points, in any given correspondence. If there's more than one issue, send more than one email. Be as succinct as possible, as a very long email will probably not get some staffer's full attention.

US Senators:

US Representatives - Look on their web pages to find their contact information. Each one is somewhat different.

Tennessee Humane Lobby Day-Nashville 2

Carlotta is right and I cannot stress urgently enough how important it is for dog/cat owners, breeders, trainers to send FACTS to your legislators to counter the myths and downright lies they will hear from HSUS.

HSUS is very dangerous because they are covert on their mission, unlike PETA who broadcasts everywhere that pets should be eliminated.

There is a brochure on the SAOVA website you can download, clip a business card to and drop off at your legislator's office. http://saova.org/download.html If you cannot go in person PLEASE mail something and make a phone call. Lobby materials are also available on the NCRAOA website http://ncraoa.com/lobbyday.html

The world is governed by those who show up.

Tennessee Humane Lobby Day-Nashville

Crossposted with permission from Carlotta Cooper

In case you weren't aware, we have an HSUS state lobbyist in
Tennessee now. So, if you breed or show dogs, this person is working
in Nashville to get to know your state officials and to put forth the
HSUS agenda. I know that probably makes you feel just great,
especially since they are anti-dog breeder.

It would be a great idea if all of you try to touch base with your
own state representatives and senators to make sure they know where
you stand on dog issues. Tell them that you are opposed to increased
breeder regulation and licensing. Tell them that you oppose things
like mandatory spaying/neutering and breed specific legislation.
Tell them that you're a responsible person who votes and you're a
good breeder. You are not the way that HSUS tries to portray you.

Whether you breed, show, have hunting dogs or you're involved with
dogs in any other way, the things that HSUS is doing in our state
will affect you. So please contact your representatives and let them
know how you feel about it.

You can find your legislators on this page: http:// www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/
